Ed and Linda have been selling Victorian, Eastlake and Edwardian furniture for a long time. They always have a selection of settees, arm chairs, Morris chairs, sofas and benches for sale. Their business involves restoring and refinishing these pieces. Recently, they began experimenting with the use of high quality leather rather than upholstery fabric in their work. The result has been a very popular line of perfectly restored antique chairs, sofas and settees, which retain the style and elegance of the period, but which reflect an updated style with the use of boldly coloured leather. They’ll have an excellent selection of these pieces at Elora.

Steve and Suzanne Lee, Old Stuff For You, Fitzroy HarbourWhen asked to describe what they sell, Steve and Suzanne said, “vintage & contemporary Quebec folk art, old sporting & fishing collectibles, antique metal items, native art, ephemera, small furniture…” On looking through their booth, one is struck by the amount of vintage fishing and hunting material one sees. This booth looks like a fishing/hunting camp.

Second exit - The park has installed a new exit from the show field, which will eliminate any traffic jams for patrons leaving at the end of the day.

Food services - Tempting choices from a wide range of ‘outdoor-style’ food vendors. Sit down in the food court or pick up something from the smaller satellite locations around the field.

Cash machines - Get cash from the Bank of Montreal mobile machine.

David Stewart, The Brooklin Antiquarian, has done every Port Carling show since the first one in 1982. This year he’ll have the usual display of refinished country furniture, including a 10 foot harvest table and an oversized glass door cupboard.

These dealers will be joined by a large contingent of returning regulars. This list includes Caroline and Bill Byfield, Scott and Karen Young, Bill Pinkney, the Frydays and many more. In all, 40 first rate dealers will put on a display of antiques and collectibles that should rank among the best ever assembled at the Muskoka Antique Show.

2009 Show Preview:

Land and Ross Antiques, from nearby Shakespeare have been big supporters of this new show. They operate two antique shops in Shakespeare and do a number of shows. Peter and Wayne sell a lot of refinished country furniture, including dining tables, chests of drawers, large and small cupboards, and all kinds of accessories. Mostly found in western Ontario, their furniture is usually of pine, cherry, maple or walnut.

Antiques in Time, Stratford, John Shantz has been in business in Stratford for years, and has developed an excellent business buying and selling antique clocks and watches. He will be at the show with a great assortment of wall and mantel clocks, plus long case clocks and perhaps some antique pocket watches.

Caroline Byfield Antiques – Caroline and Bill, from Kitchener, have also played a large role in getting this show underway. Almost all of their stock comes from estates in and around Kitchener. They have a wide range of interests, so collectors will find many categories – furniture, books, ephemera, vintage toys, advertising, linens, quilts, china, glass and much more. Always lots of fresh stock, fairly priced, and in top condition.

Their business, Three Squirrels Antiques, reflects their eclectic and wide ranging tastes. They have a very good eye for quality. At the recent Christie Antique Show, they had a historically important advertising piece in the form of a large glass whisky dispenser, inscribed with the name of the business. They also displayed one of the finest pieces of folk art at the show, a carved horse’s head match holder entitled ‘Old Dobbin’. Check out Three Squirrels for unusual western Ontario artifacts.
